Day 1: The Four Foundations Flow
Let’s set the groundwork for all your movement to come!
As you move into this journey toward total body core strength with me, it’s important not to do things the same old way. And as an anatomy of yoga movement expert—I can tell you there are many things we can shift for the more powerful here on this course.
Strange but true: many common yoga poses, which are supposed to heal, stretch and strengthen you, are often doing the exact opposite! And teachers sometimes don’t know enough about biomechanics to help you get more results, more safely.
The original yogis did not know about all the anatomy and physics information we know today, and they were teaching young boys, who were flexible and didn’t require that kind of safety focus.
Somewhere along the way, yoga movement became really linear (all straight limbs while moving), and aimed towards hyper-flexibility.
First off, the human body doesn’t like moving with all straight limbs and spine. It isn’t built to hold positions for long periods of time. It needs to stay flexible, but not move beyond your natural range of motion, which is different for every person. All of this can hurt you and really strain your joints.
Today’s flow is a total workout, but it will also teach you how to re-connect with the earth, draw into your core, and move from the ground up, more organically than ever before —the way Nature Intended.
Feel into this movement, be with the rhythm of it, and your breath, and see if you feel more solid, more centered and more light and free as you express these poses in the right order for your body!
Thanks for finding your holistic inner strength with me today!
