Welcome to Day 2 on your Journey! Today we really light the fires of physical transformation with this exclusive Yoga Shred® session. This is my signature (and joint-safer) fusion of yoga and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Read on for more important details: ⬇️
⭐️ NOTE: I used two hand weights (water bottles or wrist weights also work) and a yoga mat & block for this session.
Yoga alone does not fully optimize your cardio (the foundation of all your health and fitness: how well you burn fat, intake oxygen and how your metabolism runs). Nor does yoga lift, tone and define your muscles. You need moderate and fast-twitch muscle fiber action for that.
Enter the Yoga Shred®.
Today we'll focus on building incredible strength and heat in the legs and glutes, while optimizing your cardio and fat-burning potential for the new year ahead. The key with HIIT is to go all out (in good alignment) for the 20 second rounds of activity, then rest and stretch out for the 10 second rest periods. Those 20 seconds should feel very intense, but still doable.
These Shreds are done in Tabata timing, named for the Japanese scientist who discovered that doing 4-8 rounds (2-4 minutes) of faster, intense and aligned movements transform your body and health faster than working out for 2-4 HOURS. A regular Yoga Shred® class (like this one) contains 3-4 Shred 4 minute rounds, max. More is not better!

If you're used to the slower movement of regular yoga, which we will be doing tomorrow, by the way, take heart--
Think of the Yoga Shred® classes as the yang to yoga's yin, and a chance to bring in the fierce, empowered energy that this year will require.
Aim for faster, fierce movement, but you can always modify by slowing the movements down, standing up more, or not doing as many rounds until you build up strength and stamina. Chip away and don't give up if you can't do 100% of this! 🙌 Also important: unlike yoga, breathe through your mouth when your heart rate rises --you'll need the oxygen!
Lastly--have fun! Yoga Shred® is a perfect cross-training and counter-practice for slower yoga, and gives you the other 50% of your body's benefits that yoga alone can't. Let this be an invigorating addition to your style.
